TikTok has more than a billion users on its platform, and it appears the company is now taking another step to make the platform more competitive for valuable influencers and content creators. Following in the footsteps of Instagram, TikTok, a company owned by ByteDance, is now allowing all user s to add a single link to their profile page. This ability, in testing since November 2019, was only available to a small group of users. It is now being rolled out globally, however.
Influencers’ audiences are the source of income for social media power users and this move makes it easier for influencers to promote revenue generations streams or sign brand deals. This makes the platform far more attractive to users who see social media as their income source. I expect an influx in influencers from other platforms onto TikTok.
This is clearly taking after Instagram which allows users a single link in their biography. Perhaps TikTok will continue to develop similar ideas? TikTok often receives features seen in Douyin, the app’s Chinese sister, 6 months afterwards. One feature currently available on Douyin (and Instagram) is in-post shopping. This allows users to shop and buy items from within the app. Imagine promoting a dress you are wearing on TikTok and users being able to buy instantly.
The new feature is currently rolling out globally and users should see their accounts update in the coming days. There is a way to access this feature early which I will explain in a further blog post.
